Assignment # 5

Enumerate the effects of technological change in our society and describe and list strategies used in the Philippines to address the skills shortage in advanced technology sectors. (at least 1,500 words)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our period is commonly said be a time of rapid technological change. The effects of technological change occurring in our society is said to be dramatic, others are subtle, and the changes are experienced in the mundane activities of everyday life. From the beginning of our assignment we get to know what is technology and the reasons why we used them. We mentions many of the positive aspects that a technology can give us while juxtaposing it with the many negative effects that it will cause in our society.

History demonstrates that when new inventions are introduced into a society, the society changes.
Technology is changing and will continue to change society. There are many factors that change a society at any one time in history, but that technology plays a key role. There are number of ways that our society and surroundings has affected by technology. It can be enlivening and horrifying. In many societies, the result of advanced economy and the rise of the quality of life of humanity are brought by technology. On the other hand, many technological processes produce unwanted results that harm the society and the natural resources. Acknowledging the nature of technology, the public supports it in spite of the disaster brought by technology because as observed most of us people are poorly informed about how technology actually works.

The ability of human to create and use technology sets us apart from other animals. Technologies are developed to help us do something we could not do. It is not always the case that the invention of technology comes about in order to meet the existing needs of mankind. However, over the history of technology it main purpose of invention is to solve for problems. When our needs increases new technologies are created, thus this new technology often gives satisfaction in our own needs. It is not always for practical reasons the intention of attaining technology because there are also new technologies often developed as a symbol of prestige like the innovation cars having renowned brand names. It is naturally dynamic and increasing process the development of technology. Without considering the social concern, technological change is absolutely one of the unstoppable advancement of present technologies. With this technological advancement we can always make things better and faster, which is one of the main goal of developing technology, improving the quality of life. We take this technological change in our society as one of the unique human endeavor. Other endeavors do not have these characteristics that in spite of the disaster brought by technology still the public support it. Nowadays, most countries are advanced technologically, and they are now experiencing the effects of technological change in their society.

A Technologically progressive society is one in which problems are observed in systematic way and, more importantly, that solutions to problems are possible. With progress of technological change, human in the society has stopped believing in magic powers because they can find answer in the technology itself. Our lack of understanding over the technology can render us powerless over it. Understanding of technology is the key importance. This influences what technology is or is not made available to us.

There are winners and losers in our society because of the effect of this technological change. Since technology has both positive and negative aspects it is the greatest source of economic growth or the technology of production. The negative effect of this economic growth is elimination of man power. Possible, there will be so many jobless people and they will have a hard time looking for a job.
People in the society lost distinct identity, and the way of life began to fall in to pieces.

Technology does not succeed or fail on its natural value. Some technology succeeds because of particular group interest like the victory of the atomic power while some technology fails because of particular group interest like the AIDS research, ‘til now there no is treatment found for this kind of disease.
The technological Fix: Technology used to attempt solutions for many problems, Heroin addiction: development of Methadone and now cocaine vaccine, Car Accidents: seat belt and air bags, Graffiti on public property: stronger chemicals to resist paint.

The technological change in our society may also cause poverty. This is social problem and the goal of technology for this social problem is to come up with different ways to solve poverty. When problem cannot be easily cut off: technological solution less likely to be effective. Technology will continue to make advancements in their respective field, but until society can learn to protect our world, especially our environment, from these advancements, they will continue to cause problem. We can see how much potential damage technological change can bring forth, yet the cure for this damage can be found in new technology which is also brought by the technological change. The cycle pattern is clear that technological change plays both roles a constructive and destructive in the society. A technology is a solution to one problem creates new problem. Artificial hearts help sustain life but it is expensive, growth of population needs to be cared for, and issues of morality.

In many ways, technology simplifies life. The effects of lifestyle in the society brought by technological change are: the rise of a leisure class; a more informed society, which can make quicker responses to events and trends; Sets the stage for more complex learning tasks; Increases multi-tasking (although this may not be simplifying); Global networking; Creates denser social circles; Cheaper prices; Greater specialization in jobs. On the other hand, technology complicates life: Pollution is a serious problem in a technologically advanced society (from acid rain to Chernobyl and Bhopal); The increase in transportation technology has brought congestion in some areas; Technicism; New forms of danger existing as a consequence of new forms of technology, such as the first generation of nuclear reactors; New forms of entertainment, such as video games and internet access could have possible social effects on areas such as academic performance; Increased probability of some diseases and disorders, such as obesity; Social separation of singular human interaction. Technology has increased the need to talk to more people faster; Structural unemployment; anthropocentric climate change.

Technology has followed a path that began slowly, and is now increasing rapidly. Technology is once again adding to this base of knowledge needed to better society. People today are ignorant and do not fully understand the effects of technology. This ignorance shifts the balance between society and technology, causing technology to no longer be properly checked by public awareness. Even though technology has many positive effects, in the long run, it may be argued, technology generates more harm than good. Technology has been with us since the very beginning. It has lasted all this time and has become even more prominent.

People should stop thinking only about the short-term gains that can be facilitated by technology and focus on long-term issues; otherwise, the use of technology can create an irreversible, dangerous world state that will completely outweigh the good that has come from it. The negative effects of technology will outweigh the positive ones. Society will continue to rely on new advancements to cure these technological complications. However, we should always bare in mind that we shouldn’t rely solely on technology to solve our problems.

As a society people have access to and benefit from advanced technologies, yet rarely do they understand how these technologies function or how they can be fully used. As such, they are often left feeling frustrated and incompetent. Lack of participation and understanding of technological development and application can produce a fusion of naïve hope and paranoid reaction. In the Philippines, to address the skills shortage in advanced technology sectors, the public must become more aware and participatory in facilitating the causes, applications, and results of these innovations and in order for technology to achieve its maximum benefits in the future. Technologies are ever-increasing and more advanced. Our efforts to adjust our lifestyles in order to preserve earth’s diminishing resources are also important in order to conquer our earthly conditions. Society’s ignorance of technology doesn’t need to be a permanent condition, and that people can eventually come to comprehend the sources and consequences of changes in technology through increased education.

Technology is overall advantageous to society. We realize that society should be thankful for all the benefits that technology has provided, allowing humans to lead comfortable and convenient lives. If society could understand that technology does create many problems and actively participate in the effort to resolve these problems, they would see that the positive effects could outweigh the negative effects. Although technology creates many problems, the solution is not to give up all that we have gained from it, but to address these problems, and then continue to reap their benefits. Recognizing all of the small contribution that technologies have made in our lives help us more ambitious to have a better life. The star leading strategy used in the Philippines to address the skills shortage in advanced technology sectors is to conquer the ignorance which is the major problem.

Assignment # 4

Prominent book authors said that technology is the biggest contributor to climate change, in you capacity as an IT student, how would you address this global problem? Enumerate steps and actions to be taken. (at least 3,000 words)

Global problems can be extract into broad categories. One of the global problems in today’s life around the world is the environmental problem. However there are also some people that sees environmental problem not a problem anymore yet they are quite concerned about the clean air, water, and land. We want to care for our health and environment as well as to preserve the environment as much as possible. There are governing bodies that help the nature clean in general. In order to have a clean air we should control the air emission. To have a safe drinking water we should control the quality of drinking water that will keep the water clean and the oil pollution control to prevent and take action to disastrous oil spills mostly coming from factories. Another complex global problem and the most common global problem is the Earth’s Climate or what we called climate change. With this Global problems affect everyone and are not open to a single or a local solution. Since it is a global problem it is also needed a global solution. Global Problems is associated with cause and effect. Impact is experience as severe stress that drives continual change globally.

Who is the biggest contributor to climate change? Or I rather ask, what is the biggest contributor to climate change? I have searched from the internet some issue about the contributor to climate change. Before answering that question let us first understand the idea of climate change. Differentiating weather and climate is important because sometimes these words are understood having the same meaning which is supposed to be not. Weather is what is happening in the atmosphere at a particular place and time while climate refers to the average pattern o weather in a region. What climate change is? According to wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, climate change is any long-term significant change in the average weather that a given region experience. What is that average weather? These are the average temperature, precipitation and wind patterns. What we have experiencing right know is an end result of a climate change. A change in normal condition of the atmosphere over period of decades to million of years. There is no constant weather condition that we can experience. Most of the time we experienced weather change. Who causes this change? Us? We are the one taking actions that can change the earth and our climate in different ways. Our innocent ways have given results to climate change. An effect of climate change that we are experiencing right now is the Global Warming. Global warming is the increase of the average temperature of the earth. As more carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases are added to the atmosphere, the temperature of the earth will rise. This is cause by people of the past hundred of years who have been burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil in ever increasing quantities. Carbon dioxide that is released are taken up by the plant life and absorbed into the ocean, but not all carbon dioxide is taken up by plants and ocean, in the short-term about half of it remains in the atmosphere. Not only the burning coal and oil but also other industrial activities also have been releasing several other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. If global warming takes place, not every day or every place will be warmer. But on average for the most part of places will be warmer. This will cause changes in the amount and pattern of rain and snow, in the length of growing seasons, in the occurrence and harshness of storms, and in sea level. Farms, forests, and plants and animals in the natural environment, will all be affected

Patrick Smith, an author of Ask the Pilot, said that technology is the biggest contributor to climate change. According to him, commercial planes account for only about 5 percent of the world's total greenhouse gas pollutants. This 5 percent gas pollutant also gives harmful effect to our ozone layer.
Another person that says technology is the biggest contributor to climate change is the author of “take pride in utah”. According to the author, Environmental conservation has always been a topic for lengthy discussions, but up until recent times, global warming and climate changes were vague subjects, with no hard proof. Not surprisingly, the previous lack of attention to these issues has created a very gloomy outlook on our future. So, considering all this, what could be the biggest contributor to climate changes through global warming? Transportation. These are the man-made iron horses, flying machines and sea monsters. The question we have now is how green is our transportation? The majority of the world’s vehicles are fueled by oil (petrol, diesel and kerosene). Even if they rely on electricity, the stations used to generate this electricity use fossil fuels for power. Excluding vehicle manufacture, transportation is responsible for 14% of the artificially created greenhouse emissions, mostly carbon dioxide. Automobiles, trains and planes are all responsible for this problem, but cars are the highest impact-makers. They release approximately six times more carbon dioxide than a plane and seven times more than sea vessels.
For me, it is really the human who is the biggest contributor to climate change, technology is just a tool used by human that give off pollutant gasses. Nobody wants this global warming however this is evitable since we are using technologies. It is not only technology that has something to do with the cause of this global problem. There are human activities that are contributors to possible climate change. The major contributor to possible climate change is the burning of coal, oil, and natural gas. When these are burned carbon dioxide is release, the most important greenhouse gas. The modest contributor to possible climate change is deforestation. When wood is burned, the carbon contained in the trees is released as carbon dioxide. When wood rots in swamps methane can be produced. Living trees remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Rice paddies, cattle, coal mines, gas pipelines, and landfills produce methane, another greenhouse gas, which today causes about 30% as much warming as carbon dioxide. Fertilizers and other chemicals release nitrous oxide, which today causes about 10% as much warming as carbon dioxide. Another significant cause of climate change aerosol spray cans, nuclear power, the space program, toxic waste.
Have you heard the campaigned about “clean-coal”? A stop coal for green peace. “Clean coal” is an attempt by the coal industry to try and make itself relevant in the age of renewables. Carbon dioxide is a symbol of the most important portion of greenhouse gases. Since coal is a very much polluting energy source because it emits much more carbon per unit of energy than oil, and natural gas, therefore coal is one of the leading contributors to climate change. From mine to sky, from extraction to combustion coal pollutes every step of the way. The huge environmental and social costs associated with coal usage make it an expensive option for developing countries. From acid drainage from coal mines, polluting rivers and streams, to the release of mercury and other toxins when it is burned, as well as climate-destroying gases and fine particulates that cause destruction on human health, coal is unquestionably, a dirty business. It is a major contributor to climate change. The biggest environmental threat we face. It is the most carbon-intensive fossil fuel, emitting 29% more than oil, 80% more carbon dioxide per unit of energy than gas. Mercury on the other hand, is a problem. Mercury and its compounds are highly toxic and pose a global environmental threat to humans and wildlife.
How fast will the climate change will it change? The answer depends in part on how people behave over the next several decades. If we carry on pretty much with business as usual, expanding the amount of energy each person uses, the developed world will continue to add large amounts of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. As developing countries like China and India continue to add population, and become more economically developed, they will begin to add even larger amounts of carbon dioxide.
In my capacity as an Information Technology Student, since it is a global problem, this should be addressed also globally. I will put a campaign for all developing countries to encourage them to lead and contribute the most to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. The problem of climate change is not a single problem. It is a massive number of problems that will be faced by many different groups with different needs and different concerns. Everybody must look at some of the specific things that might be done. What can be done to climate change?
Here are some steps and actions to be done to reduce emissions. Firstly, improving energy efficiency. If we can make things like cars and appliances do their job just as well while using less energy, then we do not need to burn as much coal and oil. Burning fossil fuels like coal and oil produces carbon dioxide. Increasing the energy efficiency in transportation, homes, offices, and factories is the best way we have to reduce carbon dioxide emissions without lowering our standard of living. Secondly, replacing coal, oil and gasoline with cleaner energy sources and technologies would reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve efficiency. Instead of gasoline, use ethanol, hydrogen or electricity in cars and trucks. One of innovation of technology in my assignment number two is the separator of hydrogen and oxygen. Instead of using gasoline to run your car, use hydrogen. As what I have said that this technology is existing already. There are a lot of alternative fuels to run the cars, like the ethanol. Ethanol is a kind of alcohol made from corn. If ethanol were made from sustainable agriculture, or if hydrogen or electricity were generated by renewable means, converting all vehicles would eventually reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Another is replacing half of the existing oil and coal fired power plants with solar power plants, which is also the invention I presented. Using this solar energy to provide electricity, light, heat, and steam for buildings and industry wherever possible, it could reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Lastly in agriculture, deforestation and other human activities are also responsible for significant quantities of greenhouse gas emissions. Reductions can be achieved through improved waste management, altered use and formulation of fertilizers, and changes in land use. Every time we cut tress, we should plant another seedling to replace it. We should avoid burning of woods of trees in the forest to get rid of carbon dioxide. Proper waste management should begin with our self. We will separate the biodegradable, non-biodegradable so that we can recycle whatever waste that can still be use. Improving waste management practices and changing agricultural techniques will reduce methane emissions. Though it accounts for only a small share of the man-made greenhouse effect, methane is a powerful greenhouse gas. By handling plant and animal wastes in a manner that reduces the amount of methane produced as they decompose. Such actions could reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition, the climate problem affects everyone, and everyone has a stake in deciding what should be done. It is for you to decide what actions you should take as an individual in your home, your car, and so forth. Equally important, as a citizen you must decide which policies to support or oppose. It may be tempting to decide that the climate problem is just too complicated to deal with.
People have different views in global problem like the climate change which is the global warming. People who take no immediate action on climate change or greenhouse gas emissions. They may believe that the impacts of global warming will be very small, or may think that actions to solve global problems are too expensive. People who are so so or moderate. There goal is to slow greenhouse gas emissions and give society more time to solve the problem. Since gas emission is limited total emissions could still grow as the population or economy expands. Moderate action would not prevent climate change. But, if the entire world did it, there is a possibility that it would reduce the impacts of climate change. Tough concerned citizen who had the most ambitious in bringing to an end the emission of greenhouse gases. It aims to prevent climate change altogether. Unlike moderate or so so personality of people, this allows emissions to rise as the economy grows. Thus, in order for the world economy to grow and for living standards to rise in the developing world, ever more innovative ways to prevent emissions from growing would have to be found. If the entire world did it, tough discernment would prevent global climate change.
Again it depends upon us on how we think climate will change and what impact it brings. Whether it can be not bad, moderately bad, or very bad. Of course your judgment not only depends on what you believe about climate change, but also on what you value. People would rate the impact of climate change differently. In short, how you rate the impacts of climate change depends on what you value.
There are number ways you can do to reduce greenhouse gas emission that can cause climate change. At school, students, educators and school administrators can all play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. According to epa.gov, what can students do is, bring science to life, Explore and watch the climate change that bring to life the science and impacts of climate change. Learn about both the science of climate change and what actions they can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. High school students check your school's climate impact. High school students can investigate the link between everyday actions at their high school, greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Using EPA's Climate Change Emission Calculator Kit, students can learn about climate change, estimate their school’s greenhouse gas emissions and conceptualize ways to mitigate their school’s climate impact. Students gain detailed understandings of climate-change drivers, impacts, and science; produce an emission inventory and action plan; and can even submit the results of their emission inventory to their school district. Get Involved at your College or University. College students can play an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions at their colleges or universities by reducing their emissions from energy they use in dorm rooms. Students can also work with school administrators to: increase energy efficiency on campus, reduce their school's greenhouse gas emissions by using green power, create a campus climate action plan, or develop an inventory of their school's greenhouse gas emissions. For Educators, teach students about climate change and ecosystems. Teac the students about the climate change so that they can learn about the science of climate change and its potential effects on our nation’s wildlife and their habitats. Engage middle school students in estimating emissions. Enhance critical thinking skills by introducing the Global Warming and other resources help students estimate household greenhouse gas emissions in order to encourage students to think about ways to reduce their personal, family, school and community contributions to climate change. Learn from other educators. Investigate what other schools and organizations are doing to educate their audiences on climate change. For the administrators, save money and the environment, Estimate your emissions and take the challenge, and Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Recycle school or classroom paper, newspapers, beverage containers, electronic equipment and batteries. Reducing, reusing and recycling at school and in the classroom helps conserve energy reduce pollution and greenhouse gases from resource extraction, manufacturing and disposal. You can reduce, reuse and recycle at school or in the classroom by using two-sided printing and copying; buying supplies made with recycled content; and recycling used printer cartridges. For your old electronics, investigate leasing programs to ensure reuse and recycling or donate used equipment to schools or other organization.
On the road, what you can do to reduce greenhouse gas emission? The burning of fuels releases carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere and contributes to climate change, but these emissions can be reduced by improving your car’s fuel efficiency. You can take the following actions to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions, reduce the nation's dependence on oil and save money. For more information, there are also a number of transportation tools available to estimate emissions from transportation and the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that can be reduced through specific activities. Buy smart, Drive smart, Tune your ride, Check your tires, Give your car a break, and Use Renewable Fuels. Buy Smart, before buying a new or used vehicle (or even before renting a vehicle), check out EPA's Green Vehicle Guide and the jointly-run EPA/DOE Fuel Economy Guide. These resources provide information about the emissions and fuel economy performance of different vehicles. The Green Vehicle Guide provides detailed information on emissions (including Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gas scores for each model) and the Fuel Economy Guide focuses on fuel efficiency (including side-by-side fuel economy comparisons and a customized fuel cost calculator). These Web sites are designed to help you choose the cleanest, most fuel-efficient vehicle that meets your needs. There are a wide range of cleaner, more fuel-efficient vehicles available on the market today that produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Drive Smart, Many factors affect the fuel economy of your car. To improve fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, go easy on the brakes and gas pedal, avoid hard accelerations, reduce time spent idling and unload unnecessary items in your trunk to reduce weight. If you have a removable roof rack and you are not using it, take it off to improve your fuel economy by as much as 5 percent. Use overdrive and cruise control on your car if you have those features. For more tips to improve your gas mileage, visit the Fuel Economy Guide. Tune your ride, A well-maintained car is more fuel-efficient, produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions, is more reliable, and is safer! Keep your car well tuned, follow the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule, and use the recommended grade of motor oil. Also check and replace your vehicle’s air filter regularly. Check your tires; Check your tire pressure regularly. Under-inflation increases tire wear, reduces your fuel economy by up to 3 percent and leads to higher greenhouse gas emissions and releases of air pollutants. If you don’t know the correct tire pressure for your vehicle, you can find it listed on the door to the glove compartment or on the driver's-side door pillar.
What you can do at home? Making a few small changes in your home and yard can lead to big reductions of greenhouse gas emissions and save money. Explore our list of nine simple steps you can take around the house and yard to reduce greenhouse gas emissions: Change 5 lights, Look for energy star qualified products, Heat and cool smartly, Seal and insulate your home, Use green power, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, Be green in your yard, Use water efficiently, Spread the Word.

"I think, therefore I exist"

The reason that I see why Mr. Randy opened this Philosophical Phrase to us it is because of the expectations are not met.I thought I am lucky because I was not in the class when our instructor ask each one of the class to say something about it, but I have no escape because we are all call for our individual reflections of the quote.

I have a hard time reflecting with this Philosophical Phrase which Mr. Randy, our instructor, want us to reflect with." I think, therefore I exist" literally means that when you are thinking, then you are existing. I know on my own that I am thinking, and therefore I exist. And I think that everybody would says that they are thinking too, even though they are not. I'm not used to self appreciation, that's what I learned in Proverbs “Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips.” Existing is not just merely existing. Along with our existence in this world is the responsibility that we need to be responsible of. One way to test our existence in this world is on how we take and handle responsibility.

Assignment #3

Significant Events in Society to Innovations in Technology

The grounds of innovation in technology are to solve problems, fulfill needs, or satisfy wants. Hunger has been the major dilemma in the world. To have a quality of life, better living conditions, and solve the problem of hunger, technology serves as the human tools.

A lot of people see technology a way out to some of the problems, troubles that exist in our world. It is true that technology can be used for good, but with the new advancements here comes the new challenges issues, one that humanity are vigorously trying to overcome. We should overcome the challenges for us to live harmoniously.

We define innovation as a new way of doing something. It is all about creativity. Creative Idea is not just a single imagination. It is a result of wide-ranging idea of many things. In order to come up with the best possible results of innovation there are six diverse innovation views that generally looked-for to be integrated in to one clear point of view. These are three outsider view points and three insider perspective. For most people innovation in technology means new technologies or new products. What comes in our mind when we say innovations in technologies these are computers, telephones, cell phones, and more. There are so many technologies, and since there are a lot of innovations when it comes to technology. For that reason technology are endless. Of course the impact of these devices on the development of the modern world has been tremendous. With these innovation in technology our society would not be what it is today without the progressive development of technology.

When talking about the Information Communication Technology (ICT) there are many issues to be considered and the role of ICT in our daily lives. Innovation in technology can acquire a never-ending variety of forms and there are also poles apart people made those innovations. By that innovation in technology derived in different sources. With the scientific innovations and in hundred of years of build up technical know-how the innovation in technology has began. In the early decades the development of new technology was itself a key source of competitive advantage.

Considering the internet. As the coming of the new millennium, the internet is developing in our society, our economy and our technological system. It seems that the coming of internet brought a change to the life of people. However, no one knows for sure how far, or in what direction, the internet will evolve. But of course no one should underestimate its importance. Over the past century and a half, significant technological developments have created a global environment that is drawing the people of the world closer and closer together. The internet has created new and innovative ways for people to shape and share their identity, and express themselves. However, to some people, the internet can appear to be a modern day of something to fear. With up and coming developments in the web, it has been very useful to everybody, to all the professionals up to students. It is very obvious that today all information are available in the internet just a snap of a finger. Depends on how fast you internet connection is. Before internet can be only for communication purposes, but now everything is possible with this technology. In addition, the rise of online social networking, shopping, and other online interactions that ask people to share a large amount of personal information have led to a number of risks that every internet user needs to bear in mind. During the industrial revolution, we learned to put motors to work to magnify human and animal muscle power. In the new Information Age, we are learning to magnify brainpower by putting the power of computation wherever we need it, and to provide information services on a global basis. Computer resources are infinitely flexible tools that networked together, they allow us to generate exchange, share and manipulate information in an uncountable number of ways. The Internet, as an integrating force, has melded the technology of communications and computing to provide instant connectivity and global information services to all its users at very low cost. The impression brought by the internet in our society is tremendously a big shake experience by mankind.

The technology is very critical because it is fully embedded on how people work and the innovation in technology application can be a significant source of differentiation. With the innovation in technology arise market competition take place. One of the significant even in society to innovation in technology is the market competition between the providers and technology users. The numerous releases of technology products of so many technology providers, that society were sort of panic because they were amazed of the new technology coming out in the market. With all of the different kinds of technology coming out, technology users or people in the society were uncontrolled. Especially the release of so many technologies in gaming, teens, particularly small kinds become addictive in different they engage themselves 24 hours, which is very harmful to an individual. Even parents, they are some also parents that are being driven by innovation in technology when it comes to gaming. The popularity brought by this innovation in technology in the world of gaming has thrown a big impact to our society.

Another significant event in society to innovation in technology is in the field of medicine. Whatever breakthrough products and technology the primary concern are safety and reliability of the technology. The commitment of providing safe, reliable products is the major concerned in the invention of technology in the field of medicine. For how many past decades there are a lot of dreadful diseases are coming out and many people dies because there is no cure for there illness. Those illnesses are considered uncurable in that time and many people were hopeless whenever they got that kind of illness because they believe no such thing or anything can cure them. But in today’s century there are a lot of new products in medicine brought by the innovation in technology has brought hope to those illness. For example is the tuberculosis, before people who got that kind of illness will surely die, even those wealthy person who got that kind of disease they cannot do anything. However, now tuberculosis, also known as TB is curable in this time. Lucky are those people who got that illness in today’s generation because they is now curable in just a month. A lot more of innovation in technology in the field of medicine. Though there is no technology that can give human 100% being alive, still with this innovation in technology they were give a chance to extend there lives. An additional significant event to the innovation in technology is the invention of the alternative gasoline of jeepneys, cars and other land transportation. Remember the technology that I illustrated in my second assignment? The separator of hydrogen and oxygen. That technology is already available and invented, I don’t know if it is the same that was featured on the television. The separated elements of water can be now used as gasoline. Aside that it is affordable, it is also environment friendly. I had interviewed an engineer this product was invented by a Filipino but it was not supported by our government and it sold in the other country that is why that technology was used by other country.

In the field of military. It has also a contribution to the innovation in technology. Looking back at the successes and failures of the modern weapons and communications systems used in the recent war with Iraq, the episode of innovation follows the soldiers who actually used the technologies, and the engineers back home who developed them. The episode 4 of Hi-Tech War investigates how a new generation of weapons is forever altering the political and technical reality of combat.

Consider this episode 4: Hi-Tech War. Hi-Tech War is a step-by-step account of the technology used in the second war with Iraq, painting a vivid portrait of the front lines via the recollections and commentary of soldiers, military leaders and weapons engineers. From the opening strike and the Shock and Awe campaign that marked the commencement of the conflict to the Karbala battle and the seizing of Baghdad later on, the program spotlights the challenges of the troops faced and the devices and techniques used to overcome them. It also explores the actions that didn't work, putting it all in the greater context of combat in the Information Age.

This war has destroyed many lives of civilian people in Iraq. It was a tragic moment on that time and many people where on shocked of what is happening. It was a headline of many different new papers, and television, and many media personalities where after for that report. This also shows that innovation in technology has no good when used in war, though there intention is for peace.

These are not the only observations to be made. Recently, many advances in technology have been made, creating a new world of possibilities. Our challenge is to figure out how to use technology - both the existing and the emerging - for good, and how to assure its access and use in the most democratic way possible.

Online Activities

Consider some of the online activities that many youths are attracted to and their potential dangers.

Emails

What are they? Written messages that are sent e;electronically.
What is the appeal? E-mail is fast and inexpensive way to correspond with friends and family.
What you should know? Unsolicited e-mails, often called spam, can be more just a nuisance. Often they contain suggestive or blatantly obscene content. Links inside messages may prompt the user- including an unsuspecting child- to volunteer personal information, which can lead to identity theft. replying to such e-mails- even with the firm request to stop sending e-mails- will confirm that the user has an active e-mail address, which may lead to further unsolicited e-mails.

Children Online

What Parents Should Know

For a time, it seemed that Internet Safety was simply a matter of computer location. Keep the computer in a public area, it was thought, and your children will be less likely to veer toward the dark side of cyberspace. While the notion is still valid--- common sense dictates against giving children Internet access in the privacy of their bedroom-- it is not the final world in safety. These days wireless connections make it possible for youngster to take the internet with them wherever they go. Even many cell phones are equipped with online access. Then there are Internet cafes, Internet kiosks, libraries and the old standby, a friend's house. With so many options, it is easy how a youth's online escapades can slip past a parent's radar

Assignment # 2

Think about yourself worthy to be called as IT professional, what innovations/technologies would you introduce/contribute to improve the quality of life.

Am I worthy to be called IT professional? Hmm…. Frankly, I don’t bother myself to ask this kind of question. I’m sure that whoever will read this answer of mine would probably say that “why she took IT, if she never wish to be an IT professional someday?” My answer is this. I am an IT student but I never aim to be an IT professional in the future. I believe that there is no such profession that will improve the quality of human life or even the animal life. ^_^

Yes, our parents send us to school to attained education. An education that will lead in to a profession. To gain a profession is the highest compliment that I can pay to my parents. Taking an IT course, it is expected that someday I will become an I.T. professional. Maybe deep within myself there is a longing to be an expert in IT, a contradicting thought in the first paragraph. You know why I said those things? It is because I think I cannot be the same with others who are very good in IT. I am a computer science student, but I am not good. A little knowledge that I cannot be proud of as an IT student. However, I know that in the other way around I can be a productive citizen.

IT what does it means? Information Technology is a broad area which deals with technology and other aspect of processing information. Technologies are used by human such as machines, hardware, etc. A lot of contribution that a technology has given to us. And undoubtedly the innovation of technology brings social change. But to have a technology is very expensive, so how about the people who can’t afford to buy those technologies? Do they can never have the chance to live life comfortably and do things easily? How pity they are because they can never feel how to live life happily. Sometimes, I said to myself that life is so unfair. Not all people in the world had the chance to enjoy the technologies. Therefore, Advances in Technology, is generally not shared within. People with money have the opportunity to acquire technology, which make them possible to acquire even more wealth. As observed that almost technologies are intended for war, they inventors of this kind of technology always anticipated war. The development of weapons has evolved throughout the history. By that war has been and will continue to be the driving force for technology and innovation. Though not all technologies are intended for wars, there is also technology that has been used for peaceful purposes. Like the invention of the telephone, internet, and other communication devices that allow people from different part of the world to have an access to each other. Aside from the automotive cars, that helps human to travel very fast. There are number of ways that technology has affected our society and our surroundings. The question is whether technologies improves the human condition or worsen it? Well, my opinion is technologies improve human condition, of what I have site above however it also worsen other human condition. Like what I have said that wealthy people can have those technology, but how about those unfortunate? Consider this example; if you are wealthy you can buy any technology that you wished, which you think that it improves your way of living. On the other side, poor people can lose his/ her job because manpower is not needed anymore. From that example technologies worsen human condition. With these technologies the traditional norms are replaced. It can be viewed as an activity that forms or changes culture. Technology is known the arts for the benefit of life.

Professional what does it mean? It is a person in a profession. Profession involve the application of specialize knowledge of a subject or field. You cannot be called professional instantly, whenever you wish because being a professional person you must acquire knowledge, which along with the skills are the knowledge. I look at a professional person as a person who had done a lot in his/ her life. Accomplishments are overflowing and of course the he/ she have all the knowledge. Commonly professionals are engaged in creative and challenging works. They are expected to be independent and handle responsibility accordingly. People are different. There are professional people that provide service in exchange for payment or salary. They will not give there service unless you pay them according the amount that they asked for you as there talent fee. But there are also professionals that give service for free. Talents and skills of professional are important in any forms of work be it paid, unpaid, volunteer or any other works. I make some research of what is a true professional.

According to wiki, A true professional must be proficient in all criteria for the field of work they are practicing professionally in.

1. Academic qualifications - i.e., university college/institute
2. Expert and specialized knowledge in field which one is practicing professionally
3. Excellent manual/practical & literary skills in relation to profession
4. High quality work in (examples): creations, products, services, presentations, consultancy, primary/other research, administrative, marketing or other work endeavors
A high standard of professional ethics, behavior and work activities while carrying out one's profession (as an employee, self-employed person, career, enterprise, business, company, or partnership/associate/colleague, etc.)

Based from the criteria above, a professional must possess a large body of knowledge derived from extensive academic study with the training almost always formalized.

An IT professional, is a person in a profession who possess a large body of knowledge in the field of Information Technology.

As if, I am worthy to be called IT professional. I must possess the expertise to be an IT professional. Being an IT professional is a big responsibility because whatever innovation/ technology that I invented affects the human life. I am accountable of anything that will happen as an effect of my invention whether it improves or worsen human condition.

Of course, if I am an IT professional, I want to be useful IT professional. The technology that I will introduce/ contribute to improve quality of life would be advance technology of solar panels. Today our main source of energy are fossil fuels, we import it from other country in order to obtain them and we pay for it for a high price. But when will it last. Does the SUPPLY of fuels in other countries enough to sustain the NEEDS of the WORLD? We all know that others (scientists )are still searching for other source of energy other that fossil fuels. But can they last for CENTURIES? I think NOT. The BEST source of energy is the SUN itself. Sun gives us many benefits. Energy from the sun can be used for many practical purposes, including generating electricity and heating water. In fact, using solar energy instead of fossil fuels to meet some of our energy needs reduces emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants.. And it will last for CENTURIES. In the future there will be an advance technology of solar panels. Solar panels are no longer installed inside the earth but outside the earth, SPACE. There will be humongous solar panels floating in space that are installed in a space station. It can charge instantly cause it is a direct sunlight. It does not enter the earth atmosphere anymore because the sunlight energy is somehow reduced by this atmosphere. So when the SOLAR panels are converting the sunlight to solar energy, the energy converted is now then being transported/linked to earth. HOW? By building an orbital elevator. Orbital elevator is a tower that is connecting the earth and the space station. From the word “elevator” it can transport something. It can transport the solar energy from space station to earth. It can transport people through a shuttle running inside the orbital elevator. So by this technology, man can somehow relax for the supply of energy being given by the sun. Because If sun runs out of energy then that will be the only time that we no longer have a source of energy. So as long as it is there were happy. I want this technology to be available to everybody. Because technology is for people. With the advent of technology, the lifestyle of many people changed. People want their lives to be better. That’s a usual reason. To be worthy to be called as IT professional, I will do my best to do some innovation of technology that would improve the quality of life, thus the main concern is to make people happy. Though things are changing faster and we always face different challenges in our life it is so difficult to compete with the continuous change of the world.

Another innovation of technology that I will contribute is a separator of hydrogen and Oxygen. This will separate the elements of the water, the hydrogen and oxygen. With this technology pollution coming form the vehicle will be eliminated because using the hydrogen from the separated elements of the water, the vehicle will release a clear smoke that will not harm our health. There is also a high tech screen that will filter the smoke that comes out from the steam engine of car. If the smoke is now being filtered, the smoke will not anymore be dangerous. This means that hydrogen is an alternative form of car gasoline. Then the other separated element which is the oxygen will also play its role. With this invention it is not only the human that will benefit but also the environment. We can preserve all the living things here on it.

Another technology is a machine that will help the farmers. This machine will sip the unwanted pests that will harm the plants. I want it to be 100% eliminated. The harmful pests will be grind into a new technology that will make those grinded unwanted pest into a fertilizer. I want it to be like this so that everything is recyclable. Everything is useful. Nothing is wasted. So if harmful pests will be eliminated the burden of the farmers towards the pests will also be eliminated. The plants in the fields will grow healthy and bountiful. By this there will be no shortage of foods, no hungry people in the street. If everything is good, the possibility is the market price of the food is low and everybody can afford to buy. Hope so. However, all of these technologies are useless if anyone will abuse it, and they will not use it properly. Therefore the real secret to improve the quality of life of people is in the hands of people. Even though, we have a lot of invention to improve the quality of living of mankind, if people will not help themselves, there will be no improvement.

Everything in this world comes form our father God, so we must value everything here on earth. Like on how we value our life. Some other IT professional would think that weapons improve the quality of life because by this technology nobody will bully us. But God says that we should value our life, so for me lets not join to any war, because if we join, it is just the same that we don’t value our life. We strive to live, right? But always remember that the whole thing here on earth is temporary, all our effort is useless. When our Father God will judge the living and the dead, there is no escape. So to fully acquire what we are longing to live an improvement of life, we should get knowledge from God, then work according to his rule and by that there will be a chance that you can have an eternal life, as well as you can live in the paradise, and I’m sure the longing of mankind to have a quality of life will be fully experienced. There is no such technology invention of any types of professional that can give human the quality of life. It is only Father God.

Evaluation/ Criteria/Personal Journal/ Grade Weights

Evaluation Criteria
The class participation grade will reflect an evaluation of the quality and quantity of students' contributions during class sessions over the course of the semester. Students are expected to have thoughtfully read and studied all assigned topics prior to class. Some class sessions will begin with instructor or student led questions and answers. Therefore, students should be prepared to discuss the assigned topics, answer questions, and contribute to group discussions at every class. It is unlikely that a simple read of the chapters and assigned materials will sufficiently equip students for class. Look for opportunities to apply the chapter's concepts to situations in class discussions and take time to write down any unanswered questions. It is also suggested that industry visits be conducted beforehand and relate assigned topics based on students reflections/observation in the industry.

Personal Journal

A personal journal gives you an opportunity to concretize your learning. The America Heritage English dictionary defines a journal as " a diary or record of daily occurrences". Each fortnight, you will submit a journal entry that summarizes new knowledge acquired as a result of your participation in the industry visits, reading of the assigned materials, as well as group and class discussions. The journal should also include any concerns and insights that you may have gained through external readings. You are expected to post your entry regularly in your own personal blog.

Blogging

One of the major requirements in this subject is for students to have their own personal blog where they are required to document their work by blogging regularly. They are to investigate topics online and respond to critical analyses of one’s own work and talk about experiences by way of providing some comments and suggestion for every topic. Online assignment and exercise are given regularly. They are required to read and comment each others’ work.

Case Study/Assignment/Exercises
Individual case study/assignments/exercise should be posted in the MyWebForum as well as in the students personal blog. Students are required to read and fully understand the reminders especially in the area of plagiarism.

Major Paper:
A technical report of the chosen technology detailing the past, present and future technology together with the draft sketch intended for the diorama should be submitted before the final presentation of the Prototype.

Teaching Methods
The course will be taught through a combination of lectures, class discussions, film viewing, case studies, diorama, and first-hand accounts from IT experts.

Grade Weights
Grade points will be assigned according to the weighting scheme shown below. Weighted grade points will be summed, a course grade will be assigned based on this value. The maximum grade you can earn for the requirements defined above will be a "100" or its equivalent given that you submit high quality assignments, do effective group presentations, participate consistently in class discussion and the submission of the major paper.

Class Participation
(Major Paper/presentation/sharing, etc.) - 60 %
Case Study/Assignment/Exercises - 30 %
Personal Journal/Blog - 10%

Students should refer to the campus Student Scholastic Rating Passbook for further information regarding grading policies, scholastic delinquency, Grading computation, academic load, and student services.
